The UK International Moth Class Association is very pleased to announce the formation of a new winter sailing championship.
The aim of the winter championship is to allow the Moth fleet to continue competitive fleet racing at venues which showcase the class in areas of the country that don’t often see these highly manoeuvrable, exciting and fast boats.
The class has seen unprecedented growth throughout the world and the UK is no exception, in fact the UK boasts having the current World and European champion amongst its ranks.
The new winter championship will consist of 5 events with competitors scoring their best 3. The events chosen are the iconic grand UK winter sailing classics and we make no apologies for wanting to recruit new talent to the classes growing ranks.
The winter championship kicks off on October 9th/10th with Hayling Island’s Tide Ride event. This is the 10th anniversary of the event and international race officer Tim Hancock has some fresh ideas to celebrate this mile stone. The entry fee includes an evening meal where the finer detail of Moth sailing and development will no doubt be discussed along with the days thrills and spills. This is also a good opportunity for class newcomers to experience some great racing and interesting discussions.
The Moth fleet has been the largest class for the last two years and this year we expect a bigger entry than ever.
While Moth legend Simon Payne will be favorite to win the event , there is a queue waiting and keen to knock him off his perch.
The Championship continues with:
Bloody Mary, Queen Mary SC. 15th January
Grafam GP, Grafam Water SC. 2nd January.
Tiger Trophy, Rutland SC. 5Th/ 6th February
Steve Nicholson Memorial, Northampton SC. TBA.
